Stainless will crack mild steel is to soft and wont respond as a suspension member. Hi people I would like to build a go kart and would appreciate every bit of adice/plans/ideas.
and most Euro build road course karts are 28 30 an 32 mm not sure on the wall thickness 4130 moly frames as well. Does anybody see any problems with this, or have a better way of doing this? It seems like there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum and I'd love to hear any input you have. Most purpose built racing karts for dirt are made with 1 1/8 -1 1/4 4130 with. I thought of getting piping that will fit as snug as possible over the frame rails where I cut them, overlap a few inches on both ends then weld it in place. I have never done anything like this before really, I was thinking of cutting the cart in half behind the pedals and getting some steel pipe to extend it a couple feet. You could use high-strength bolts and structural steel, but it would end up too heavy.
The only welding I've done is my charge piping and exhaust and some other random small stuff with a Harbor Freight flux core welder, which I will also be using on this project Welding, or reinforcing tube ends & brazing, is the only fastening technique that will hold up to the flexing that go-karts undergo. So I picked up this go cart dirt cheap and it's too small for a 6' tall person.
